In the early days of century that was 21st
Links across the world became a buzz,
A fight against a deceiving church was the news,
The worlds voices rang out in unity,
“This deceit can not go on!”
People joined in masses, nameless faceless everyone,
The Anonymous in goal to topple the corrupt,
Thus a Legion came forth from the Internets.
“We do not forgive. We do not forget.
Expect us.” they chanted and they came.
Over 9000 strong they marched
for Lisa on the streets of 100 cities,
wielding weapons mightier than any seen before.
A shield of humor, named as LULZ,
Rickroll’s by the crowds sang in streets,
Silly chants of horse and cult,
Enturbulating fun against serious secrets.
For a weapon they had the information,
for if pen had beaten the sword,
The free information torrent of the internet
is surely mightier than a a gun or bomb.
Wielding cameras and fliers,
masks and picket signs,
they brought the worlds eyes on silent evil,
on 10th of February of 2008.
And again on Ides of March.
Peaceful, funny and mysterious,
The Anonymous Legion.
***
The Internets have awaken,
and for a just cause, should it come,
The Anonymous may be awakened again.
Beware, you who have abominable secrets,
internet will not be gaged.

There was this neat action by fallout75 for Photoshop. It made your photos look aged. But alas, I’m a Linux user and haven’t had the inclination to just buy Photoshop and mess with wine, when Gimp is freely available. But I wanted that action… So it came to pass that I wrote a Gimp script. I had never used the Gimps functional scripting language, Scheme, before and had had only a brief encounter with functional languages in school… Alas, life has shown me that programming is programming, you need documentation, some samples , syntax guide and a plan and it can be done. I admit, it took me a while to put it together working more like solving a puzzle than writing code, but I did it. I also wrote a second script to create LOMO effect. There are probably more configurable options out there… but I like it.
Heres a sample:

Download: death_effects.zip
NOTE: These actions are for Gimp 2.4(tested on RC-s and GIMP2.3, the dev version of 2.4), vintage is confirmed not to work in 2.2, rumors say that Lomo does.
Put the scripts into your scripts folder and run Gimp. They appear under “Filters->Photo Effects”. Have Fun .
Oh! I uploaded this one too, a sample of LOMO effect at work.

My family went to Vitipalu hike trails for a little Saturday outing today and of course I logged all my photo gear with me. Landscape there was pretty but a bit boringly green since autumn has not fully come yet and painted it in interesting colors. Perhaps I will go back there a bit later in the year for the landscape. Now to the fun part. There were interesting bugs around. Some spiders, failed to get a good picture of those , some giant ants and and a bug I cannot name in English. Perhaps they are called ladybugs?
The ants were VERY offensive when I approached their nest. I tried to take pictures of some mushrooms near one of their heaps and had to take a hike, because they were literally trying to eat me. So I decided to try the buggers instead.
Thats what I got:

That aggressive little bugger just bit that twig of grass and would not let go… We took a hasty leave…

I haven’t posted here for a while. Somehow have not felt like it. But now, I think its time for a recap. Hmm, lets see what Ive been up to.
Art&Photo
Sometime in march I got myself an airbrush. Ive made altogether five canvas paintings so far, you can see pictures of them at my DeviantART page. Airbrush makes sense for me somehow. I can almost make it draw what I imagine. Ive actually SOLD one painting to a coworker of mine. Incredible
In photo, well, I sold my E-500 and the accessories. The lens prices were depressing me without end and lack of manual focus confirmation broke the camels back. Hello K10D! I had drooled over this camera for a LONG time, ever since it became available and now I owned it. I had to sell my soul to the bank for two whole years to get it, but by god got it And with my own choice of lenses too. I did not buy the kit lens, because I figured I would not need it. I had my Sigma 28-70 f2.8, truly a SWEET lens, and a Sigma 70-300 no APO version for my tele needs. Well, i figured wrong, soon I was itching for a wider angle for my architecture photos. So I bought the kit from after market. Next in order was a manulal focus vivitar macro lens. Another sweet addition to my set. The spider pictures in my photo gallery are taken with that one.
Widelands
I’ve joined opensource game project called Widelands. This settlers like game just happened to need a Elder of Graphics and I volunteered. It has a few disturbing bugs in it at the moment, but slowly its getting better and better. At the moment, easiest way to come chime in is at Widelands mailing list or on the Widelands web page …
Wikipedia
I became active on Wikipedia during the end of April events here in Estonia. Our big neighbor has lost its marbles apparently, just one look at its state controlled medias shit slinging campaign is needed to be sure. The same happens on Wikipedia and the cleanup duty is onerous, because shit tends to cling on the cleaner and not the thrower. There has also been a small local uproar over an incident involving Rein Lang, his political advisor and exceptionally rude newbie. As a result I ended up giving a radio interview explaining the Wikipedia and its basic governing rules in technopolitical radio show Tehnokratt. If you have iron nerves and desire to help out, come along, contribute

My photography intrest has been getting deeper. And thus, I now own some macro tools, my two kit lenses cover the every day need and my Rubinair 8/500 scratches my itch for shooting pictrures of the moon…

This is a simple reduction of a full frame shot with the rubinair and a 2x teleconverter.
For macro I now have both the macro rings and the bellows.

This picture was taken with bellows and a Helios-44 that is the kit lens for Zenith cameras mostly. My dad had one lying about from the old days. The chain on this picture is really about 1,5mm thick.
I’ve also lately looked into studio photogaphy as a whole and as I dont have much money to spare I must do stuff on my own. Fortunatley many people with similar intrests share their experiences and with the help of http://www.diyphotography.net/ I made a small shooting stage and softbox with unbelivable results. See for yourself:

It is the title of his picture:

More or less acurate picture of my current state of mind. Im bound. Standing on a cliff, its time for decisions. But one are forthcoming. Life drags on.

Today I took some really nice macro shots. Greenery after rain provides so many wonderful opportunities.

Drops of rain on a leaf… Isnt it beautyful?
Some bugs crossed my path. I absolutly detest spiders… But. They are too nice of a target to pass by when waiting for their prey. This one I wondered across in a bush of flowers. In real life about half a centimeter long including the legs it looked so interesting.

Green spider waiting for lunch to be served.
Let see what I pick up next.
